UGC NET Geography Exam: Tips and Tricks

Time Management Tips for the UGC NET Geography Exam

The UGC NET Geography Exam is a three-hour long test consisting of two papers. Paper 1 is an objective type paper consisting of 50 multiple choice questions, each worth 2 marks. Paper 2 is a subjective type paper consisting of 100 marks worth of questions to be answered in the form of short answer questions, essay questions, or both.
Candidates must manage their time wisely in order to complete both papers within the allotted time frame. Here are some tips on how to do so:
  • Make a plan: Before beginning to answer any questions, take a few minutes to scan the entire question paper and plan your approach. This will help you better utilize your time and avoid wasting it on sections that you are not confident about.
  • Work at a steady pace: Once you start answering the questions, work at a steady pace and do not spend too much time on any one question. If you find yourself stuck on a particular question, move on and come back to it later if you have time.
  • Use elimination techniques: For multiple choice questions, if you can eliminate even one wrong answer choice, your chances of getting the question right increase significantly. Therefore, use elimination techniques wherever possible.
  • Manage your breaks: Take short breaks in between sections to rest your mind and refocus for the next section. However, do not spend too much time on breaks as this will eat into your precious time."

Tips for Answering Multiple Choice Questions in the UGC NET Geography Exam

Multiple choice questions (MCQs) are often seen as being easier than other types of questions because there are usually only four answer choices to choose from. However, this does not mean that MCQs should be taken lightly – one still needs to put in effort in order to get them right. Here are some tips on how to answer MCQs effectively:
  • Read the question carefully: Make sure that you understand what is being asked before looking at the answer choices. Otherwise, you may end up picking an answer choice that is technically correct but does not address the question properly.
  • Eliminate obviously wrong answers: This narrows down your options and makes it easier for you to choose the correct answer."
