AGE LIMIT, QUALIFICATION AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
UGC NET Eligibility Criteria
The UGC NET eligibility requirements are outlined by the National Testing Agency (NTA). To be eligible for the exam, candidates must meet certain criteria. First, for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), applicants should be up to 30 years old, while there is no age limit for the Assistant Professor post. Second, candidates need to hold a Master’s degree in relevant disciplines with a minimum of 55% marks. Educational Qualification:
- » Candidates must have completed a Master’s degree in Humanities and Social Sciences (including languages), Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, or other relevant fields.
- » The minimum required marks are 55% from UGC-recognized universities or equivalent institutions.
Age Limit & Relaxations:
- » For the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), candidates should not be more than 30 years old.
- » There is no age limit for the post of Assistant Professor.
Nationality:
- » Applicants must be Indian nationals.

Age Relaxation
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Candidates aiming for the JRF must be below 30 years of age as of December 1, 2024. A relaxation of 5 years is granted to candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST/PWD categories and women candidates.
Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for candidates applying for the post of Assistant Professor. Having a Ph.D. degree is now optional for Assistant Professor recruitment.

UGC NET Exemptions For Assistant Professor
Let me simplify the exemptions in the UGC NET eligibility criteria for candidates applying for the Assistant Professor post:
Ph.D. Awardees:
If you hold a Ph.D. degree as per UGC Regulations, 2009, you are exempt from meeting the minimum eligibility criteria for UGC NET.
Pre-1989 JRF Clearances:
Candidates who cleared the UGC/CSIR JRF examination before 1989 do not need to appear for the UGC NET 2024 exam.
SET Qualifiers (Pre-2002):
If you cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) like MH SET, APSET, KSET, etc. before June 1, 2002, you are exempt from the UGC NET 2024 exam.
You can apply for the Assistant Professor position in colleges/universities across India based on your SET score.
SET Qualifiers (Post-2002):
If you cleared the State Eligibility Test after June 1, 2002, you can apply for the Assistant Professor post only in colleges/universities within the state where you passed the SET exam.

The UGC NET exam follows the Government of India’s reservation policy. This means that seats are reserved in central universities and institutes that are considered universities. The specific details of the seat reservations are provided below.

UGC NET Application Fee 2024 Important Points
You can only pay the UGC NET exam fee online. Use Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, UPI, or Paytm through the payment gateway on the National Testing Agency (NTA) website. Note that extra charges may apply for debit/credit card payments.
Pay the fee via SBI, HDFC, Syndicate, or ICICI Payment Gateway using your Credit/Debit Card, Net Banking, or Paytm. After payment, a Confirmation Page will be generated. If not, contact the bank or payment gateway for help or a refund.
If the payment fails, the amount will be refunded within a week, and you will need to pay again. Keep proof of payment. Payments by money order, demand draft, or IPO will be rejected. The fee is non-refundable and must be paid before the deadline. The fee varies by category (general, OBC, SC/ST/PwD).
How To Submit UGC NET Application Fee?
- Choose Online Payment: After filling out your application form, you need to pay the application fee online. First, select the “Online Payment” option.
- Payment Provider: Next, choose your payment provider (like a bank or payment gateway) and click “Proceed for Payment.”
- Fill in Details: Enter the required details for your payment method (credit card, net banking, etc.) and click “Submit.”
- Save Transaction ID: Once your payment is successful, save or print the transaction ID page for future reference.
- Download Application Form: Finally, download and save a copy of the filled application form on your computer. Take a printout for your records.
UGC NET Exam Pattern 2024
The UGC NET Exam consists of a total of 150 (MCQ's) multiple-choice questions that the candidate has to attempt within 3 hours. The nature of the questions will be objective type of the UGC NET exam Syllabus subject.
The Test will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of objective type, multiple choice questions. There will be no break between papers.

UGC NET Medium of Question Paper
- The medium of Question Paper shall be in English & Hindi only.
- Option of medium of Question Paper should be carefully chosen by the Candidate, while filling the Application Form online. The option once exercised cannot be changed.
- Candidates opting for Hindi medium in the Application Form will be given bilingual paper, but candidates opting for English medium will be given English version only.
- Candidates are required to answer in the medium as per option exercised in the Application Form.
- In case of any ambiguity in translation/construction of a question in the exam, its English version shall be treated as final and the decision of NTA shall be final in this regard.

- Visit the Official Website: Go to the UGC NET official website at ugcnet.nta.ac.in.
- Admit Card Link: Look for the “Download Admit Card” link and click on it.
- Enter Details: Provide your application number, date of birth, and the security pin as requested on the login page.
- Submit: Click the “Submit” button.
- Download and Save: Your admit card (also known as the hall ticket) will appear on the screen. Download it and save it for your upcoming exam.
